Matthew Hibner led SMU’s 2026 NFL Draft class, while several Mustangs landed undrafted free agent opportunities across the league.
SMU tight end Matthew Hibner gave the Mustangs their lone 2026 NFL Draft selection when the Baltimore Ravens took him in the fourth round with the No. 133 overall pick.
It’s a major moment for Hibner and for SMU, which hadn’t had a tight end drafted since Grant Calcaterra went to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. Hibner’s rise came after RJ Maryland’s injury opened the door for a larger role, and he made the most of it.

Across 20 starts, Hibner caught 55 passes for 804 yards while also helping on special teams.
That versatility should matter in Baltimore, where the Ravens have a need for tight end depth after Isaiah Likely’s move to the Giants and Mark Andrews’ dip in 2025.
SMU also saw several key players sign undrafted free agent deals.
Wide receiver Romello Brinson is heading home to join the Miami Dolphins after totaling 1,204 receiving yards and five touchdowns over three seasons with the Mustangs.
Running back TJ Harden signed with the Cleveland Browns after leading SMU in 2025 with 171 carries for 787 yards and nine touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jordan Hudson landed with the Dallas Cowboys after leading SMU with 766 receiving yards and six touchdowns despite dealing with injuries.
If he sticks, Hudson will get to learn from CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

Maryland also found a home, signing with the Green Bay Packers. Even after an ACL injury, he posted 27 catches for 322 yards in 2025 and finished as SMU’s all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end with 1,495.
SMU had two players drafted in 2025, but this year’s group still has multiple NFL chances. Hibner headlines the class, but the Mustangs’ undrafted signees now get their shot to prove they belong.
