SMU sends Jaron Pierre Jr., B.J. Edwards and Boopie Miller to 2026 NBA Summer League after a breakthrough season on the Hilltop.
SMU basketball will have a strong presence at the 2026 NBA Summer League, and it’s another sign of how far the program has climbed.
Three former Mustangs are set to suit up with NBA organizations in July, with Jaron Pierre Jr. joining the New Orleans Pelicans, Boopie Miller playing for the Milwaukee Bucks and B.J. Edwards getting his shot with the Sacramento Kings.
The Las Vegas portion of NBA Summer League runs July 9-19, while Edwards and Miller will also get early action in the California Classic from July 3-6 in Sacramento.
Pierre enters summer league with the clearest draft-night momentum after the Pelicans selected him in the second round with the No. 58 overall pick.
In his lone season at SMU, he helped push the Mustangs back into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017 while averaging 17.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steals.
He also shot 46.2 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from three and 75.8 percent at the free-throw line.
His biggest statement came Dec. 7, when he erupted for 35 points in a 93-80 overtime win over Texas A&M.
Pierre’s Pelicans schedule opens July 9 against Minnesota on Prime Video, followed by games against Charlotte, Phoenix and Cleveland.
Edwards may not have heard his name called on draft night, but his resume screams NBA summer league value.
The Sacramento Kings are getting a versatile guard with defensive edge, playmaking and serious production. Edwards earned two ACC All-Defensive Team selections at SMU and was All-ACC Honorable Mention as a senior.
During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals. That steals number led the ACC and ranked 12th nationally.
He also tied for the national lead with two triple-doubles and became the only player in the country with three games of at least 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
That’s not empty stat padding. That’s chaos in sneakers.
Miller gives Milwaukee another intriguing summer league guard after a monster two-year run at SMU.
As a senior, he averaged 19.1 points, 6.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 46.5 percent overall, 41.4 percent from three and 86.6 percent at the line.
He also made a habit of ripping hearts out late, drilling three game-winners in the final seconds during his SMU career.
The wildest was a half-court buzzer-beater to beat Virginia Tech, 77-76, on Jan. 14, 2026.
Miller’s Bucks slate includes California Classic games against Golden State Blue, Brooklyn and Sacramento before Vegas matchups with Miami, San Antonio, Phoenix and Charlotte.
Pierre, Edwards and Miller all took different paths to this moment. Together, they’re giving SMU basketball a bigger NBA spotlight than it’s had in years.
