
Syracuse women’s basketball team continued its early-season run through the competition, more than doubling Colgate’s point total in an 88-42 victory Wednesday night at the JWA Wireless Dome.
The Orange led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 24-5 lead as they shot 7 of 12 from the field, 3 of 4 from 3-point range and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line after Colgate committee six fouls in the first quarter.
Laila Phelia scored eight points in seven minutes.
Colgate was just 2 of 11 (18.3%) for the quarter, en route to shooting 32.0% for the game.
No Syracuse (9-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) starter played more than 20 minutes, with the bench tallying more minutes that the starters and 15 players seeing action.
Uche Izoje was 7-of-8 shooting and led the Orange with 16 points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes. Sophie Burrows scored 13 points and recorded five boards, Phelia added 10 points 19 monutes, and Dominique Darius doled out 10 assists and had five steals.
For Colgate (4-6), Ella Meadows led the team with 11 points, and Abbe Ferguson accounted for six rebounds.
The Raiders, after a perfect start to the season, have lost six games in a row.
The Syracuse bench gave the starters a long break and contributed 36 points, compared to 14 for Colgate, just one of the positive numbers for the Orange.
Syracuse:
The Orange were predicted to finish 13th in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season following a 12-18 (6-12 ACC) 2024-25 campaign. Through the first 10 games last season, they were 4-6.
The lone loss for Syracuse came against No 6 Michigan, 81-55 on Nov. 23.
They are averaging 73.8 points, 42.7 rebounds and 12.3 steals per game.
The Orange have two games -- they host Binghamton and Mercyhurst -- before their 17 consecutive games against ACC opponents. After the holiday, Syracuse will host Duke on Dec. 28 and Florida State on Jan. 1 in conference play.
