Autry spent three years as the head coach at SU, and now he's staying in the ACC.

After getting fired as the Syracuse men's basketball coach, Adrian Autry is joining one of SU's conference rivals.

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Autry has joined the University of Virginia staff. Virginia is helmed by Ryan Odom. Odom and Autry worked together at Virginia Tech under former head coach Seth Greenberg.

Odom is one of the brightest coaches in the game. He famously led No. 16 UMBC to a win over No. 1 Virginia in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, marking the first time ever that a No. 16 had beaten a No. 1. He then went to Utah State before coming to Virginia prior to this season.

He led the Cavaliers to a 30-6 record and a 15-3 ACC mark.

About Autry

A four-player (1990-93) who started 116 games, Autry averaged 12.7 ppg for the Orange, including 16.7 his final season. A two-time All-Big East selection, he also was a member of the 1993-94 All-Region team of the All-Freshman team. He went to the NCAA Tournament three times, just missing out on the Final Four run in 1995-96.

If you enjoyed watching Syracuse basketball in the 1990s and early 2000s, Autry is one of the guys who helped carry the program to those places.

He spent more than a decade on Jim Boeheim's coaching staff before ascending to the head coaching position before the 2023-24 season.

In three seasons at the helm, he went 49-48, never making the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse went 15-17 this season, finishing under .500 for the second consecutive year. He was fired following a first-round loss in the ACC Tournament and the program hired Gerry McNamara to take over.

McNamara was introduced earlier this week.

--It was announced on Wednesday that the Syracuse men's basketball team will play Indiana in a non-conference game this November. The Orange will also play Providence, clearly in an effort to bump up their non-league schedule. SU didn't play true non-conference road games in 2025-26, finishing the year at 15-17.

--It was also announced on Wednesday that Syracuse football recruit Calvin Russell III suffered a torn Achilles tendon that will sideline him "indefinitely." Still, head coach Fran Brown believes that he's going to play this upcoming season, which begins on Sept. 5 with a non-conference game against New Hampshire.

The Orange went 3-9 in 2025 and Russell is arguably the top recruit that the program has ever brought in.
