The Syracuse University men's basketball team dropped its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) game on Wednesday afternoon, falling 64-61 against Clemson at the JMA Wireless Dome.
The Orange are now 9-5 on the season.
Coming out of the game, the big takeaway was about the return of Donnie Freeman, who scored 18 points after missing the last nine games with a right foot injury.
But there were also questions being asked about the rest of the Orange's offense and about the team's playing time and substitution patterns.
For instance, freshman Kiyan Anthony had seven points, but he played just 15 minutes. Former Syracuse standout and current SU broadcaster Eric Devendorf said he would have liked to see Anthony play more.
He made the comments on his postgame podcast with former SU big man Etan Thomas.
I think Anthony should have played more. That's just me, because I thought he was, in the first half, really one of the only guys who was getting downhill, getting to the free-throw line. And then you sub him in for J.J. (Starling), and you know what? Put him and J.J. in at the same time, you know, see what him, Nate George and Kiyan could do. And then you put Donnie at the four, you put William (Kyle) at the five or whoever, however you want to do it,.
But I just think Kiyan Anthony, he's a better scorer than Nate Kingz. Yes, Nate Kingz is a better defender, but right now, you got to look, how can we get buckets? You've got a guy who, if he gets by Kiyan, William Kyle's blocking that, you know what I mean? So I just think he should have played more, you know?...

Like most freshman across the country, Anthony has been prone to swings in performance. He's averaging a solid 10.6 ppg for the season, and he's had seven games in double-figures, but he's also had games of four points, seven points (three times), and six points (twice).
It seems evident that he plays better the more minutes he gets and the more of a rhythm he can get into, so that's something that Autry will have to figure out as the season goes. On Wednesday, he clearly favored his more veteran players.
The Orange will take on Georgia Tech on Jan. 6 with tip-off coming at 7 p.m. from Atlanta, Georgia. George and Ibrahim Souare previously played at Georgia Tech.
