After just winning the Super Bowl on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks are now in the market for a new offensive coordinator. Championship playcaller Klint Kubiak has accepted the head coaching position with the Las Vegas Raiders, leaving a gap for the Seahawks at the crucial position.
Might a Syracuse alum be able to take over that critical role?
It's certainly possible as former SU offensive lineman Justin Outten has interviewed for the position, per multiple reports. He was already on the Seahawks staff as a run game specialist and offensive line assistant, and head coach Mike Macdonald has not been hesitant about giving his internal staff a chance to win the position.
Outten spent four years with the Orange on the offensive line, playing from 2003-06. In that time, the Orange posted two .500 records, going 6-6 twice. A Pennsylvania native, he was a full-time starter in both his junior and senior years.
As a coach, he began with Syracuse (2007) before moving onto a high school head coaching job in Houston (2008-15). Then, he joined the Atlanta Falcons (2016-18), Green Bay Packers (2019-21), Denver Broncos (2022), and Tennessee Titans (2023-24). He got to Seattle in 2025 and clearly helped make a difference in a much improved run game.
The Seahawks were a throw-happy team under previous offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who also spent one season with the team. However, in the offseason, Macdonald made a change. He hired Kubiak and traded away quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. They also dealt wide receiver DK Metcalf and cut Tyler Lockett. While some perceived it as a rebuild, the Seahawks just re-tooled and re-committed to Macdonald's philosophy.
Under Kubiak's system, with Outten's help, both Zack Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker flourished. Walker was named MVP of the Super Bowl, further solidifying the work of Macdonald.
The Syracuse men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 107-100 double-overtime win against Cal on Wednesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. Nate Kingz had 27 points to lead the team in scoring and William Kyle III posted 15 points and 16 rebounds.
The Orange are now 14-11 overall and 5-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play. They'll be back in action on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. ET) against SMU.
--The No. 2 ranked SU men's lacrosse team is hosting No. 1 Maryland on Friday night (6 p.m. ET) at the Dome in one of the most anticipated matchups of the season.
