Former Syracuse University men's basketball standout Buddy Boeheim got his next NBA opportunity on Friday, signing a two-way contract with the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder made the announcement on social media. A two-way contract allows Boeheim to spend time in both the NBA or in the G-League.
Per the G League's website:
Players signed to Two-Way Contracts are paid one salary for their time in both leagues. Only players with three or fewer years of NBA service are able to sign Two-Way Contracts, which can be for either one or two seasons.
The son of legendary coach Jim Boeheim, Buddy spent all four years in Central New York (2018-2022). He played in 121 career games, starting 94 of them. He played a whopping 38 minutes a game during his final season. A very good three-point shooter, he averaged 14.6 ppg for his career. His 19.2 ppg as a senior led the Atlantic Coast Conference, as did his 88.4 percent free-throw percentage.
He was an All-ACC selection in that season as well and he helped lead SU to the NCAA Tournament twice. They haven't been back since he was a senior and the team advanced to the Sweet 16 (2020-21).
This year's Orange are 13-10 and 4-6 inside the ACC. They'll be back in action on Saturday afternoon at No. 18 Virginia.
Boeheim has appeared in 20 NBA games, all for the Detroit Pistons, but he has not appeared in a game in either of the last two seasons. He's averaging 2.5 ppg as an NBA player. He's been better in his G-League career, averaging 14.0 ppg. This season, he's averaged 16.5 ppg for the G-League Thunder, but he's played only six games.
--The Syracuse women's basketball team stayed hot on Thursday night, rolling over Boston College 93-59 in Chestnut Hill, Ma. The Orange are 19-4 and 9-3 inside conference play. While not ranked, they appear to be on track for an NCAA Tournament berth later in March.
Freshman Uche Izoje led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds while Madeline Potts had 12. Laila Phelia and Dominique Darius each scored in double-figures also. Darius had 10 points and 10 assists.
They'll be back in action on Sunday afternoon (12 p.m. ET) when they host No. 6 Louisville in a massive contest at the JMA Wireless Dome.
