Qadir Copeland has a great chance to make his NBA debut soon.

Earlier this month, our own Brady Farkas noted that former Syracuse Orange basketball player Buddy Boeheim had signed a two-way deal with the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder. Less than one week after Boeheim's signing, another former Orange player finds himself with a similar deal.

Quadir Copeland has signed a two-way deal with the Houston Rockets.

In his two seasons in Central New York, Copeland saw action in 52 games, but neither season resulted in an NCAA tournament bid for the Orange. In fact, the Orange haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2021.

After Syracuse, Copeland then transferred to McNeese State, helping the Cowboys to the "Big Dance" in 2025. The then-senior followed his Coach Will Wade to North Carolina State to close out his collegiate playing career. In his final season in college, Copeland was named a Third Team All-ACC selection.

After going undrafted, Copeland signed with the Rockets and had impressive summer league performance. In the summer, Copeland posted more than 13 points per game and an impressive mark of over 54 percent from beyond the arc.

His standout performance from months ago played a pivotal role in landing an NBA roster spot. Copeland's role on the roster has still yet to be determined, but landing the two way deal and potentially finding minutes this season is a tremendous achievement for a first year player in the NBA.

According to the 2026-27 season setup, Copeland and other two way contracted players are scheduled to make $678,882,

What's next for Copeland and the Rockets?

Copeland could make his NBA debut as soon as Saturday night when Houston takes on the Atlanta Hawks. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. If not Saturday, then it could be Monday when the teams rematch, this time with the game in Houston.

What's next for Syracuse?

The Orange conclude preseason action on Saturday against Niagara. The 2026-27 Syracuse team will tip off their regular season on Monday Nov. 2 at the JMA Wireless Dome against New Haven.
