New head coach Gerry McNamara has done a nice job in the transfer portal so far, but the program took the next step on Wednesday.

Thus far, the Syracuse men's basketball program has done a nice job navigating the transfer portal under new head coach Gerry McNamara.

Heading into Wednesday, McNamara had already brought in a group of shooting guard/small forward types, a center, and a prospective point guard.

From a lineup standpoint, the Orange already seemed to have all the positions covered, but McNamara's group took a potential game-changing swing on Wednesday afternoon, adding some real defensive impact into the roster.

Per Jonathan Givony:

NEWS: Mega Superbet big man Abdramane Siby has committed to Syracuse, agent Misko Raznatovic told DraftExpress.

The 19-year-old 7-footer from Mali leads the Adriatic League in block percentage with his 7'6 wingspan.

Highly impactful defender with significant long-term upside.

Mike McAllister of 247 Sports posted additional video of Siby, which also references the 18.5 ppg and 11.7 rebounds that he pulled down last season in Serbia.

Here's more on what you need to know.

Size is aplenty in Central New York

As noted by Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports, McNamara's team has gotten very big over the last two weeks.

New Syracuse coach Gerry McNamara is building a huge team. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what he’s aiming for:

G Garwey Dual (6-5)

G Aiden Tobiason (6-5)

G Gavin Doty (6-5)

G Kiyan Anthony (6-5)

G Mark Morano Mahmutovic (6-7)

F Sadiq White (6-9)

C Abdramane Siby (7-0)

Contrast this to this past season, when William Kyle III, Donnie Freeman and White were the biggest players who saw regular playing time. All three are athletic, but all three stood at just 6'9. With this size and length, Syracuse will have the ability to rebound better and defend the post better, in addition to the hopeful offensive gains.

The one question to answer

Siby clearly has athleticism and clearly has offensive upside, but will he able to unlock it right away? If he's only a defensive player at the start, then Syracuse will have to make sure they have enough offense on the floor when he's also in the game.

Too often this past season, Syracuse fell victim to not having enough scoring on the floor, especially with the more-limited Kyle in the game, and they don't want a repeat of that next season.
