Tiefing Diawara put himself in the portal in April, and has found his new home in May.
The Syracuse men's basketball team officially lost another member of its 2025-26 roster on Wednesday, as seven-foot center Tiefing Diawara found his new home at South Florida.
Diawara entered the transfer portal in April after playing in only four games for the Orange. Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 was first on the report.
Diawara is the just the latest former Syracuse player to find a new home, including Donnie Freeman (St. John's), Naithan George (Pittsburgh), and Tyler Betsey (BYU). Others are still in the portal but have not found new programs at this time.
Given that the 240-pound Diawara only played in four games, it's likely not a big loss for Gerry McNamara's team, especially as his new coaching staff has worked to re-work the interior of its roster.
Potential 2026-27 roster
While 11 players have left between the portal and graduation, here's what a projected roster could look like this fall, taking into account the transfer portal additions, international signings and true freshmen (courtesy of our own Tom Goslowski)
Guards: Kiyan Anthony, Noah Lobdell, Gavin Doty*, Aiden Tobiason*, Garwey Dual*, Ryan Moesch**
Forwards: Sadiq White Jr., Calvin Russell III, Tasman Goodrick*, Mark Morano Mahmutovič*, Luke Wilson*, Francis Folefac*
Center: Abdramane Siby
This is a roster of 13 currently, though Syracuse could look to add additional roster pieces should a freshman like Moesch want to redshirt. Furthermore, Russell is set to miss much of the football season with a torn Achilles, and it's unclear how he'll be able to handle basketball given his recovery.
* - transfer or international signee
** - true freshman

--Speaking of the men's basketball team, it is reportedly looking to play an exhibition contest against Siena this upcoming season. However, the game wouldn't take place in Syracuse, it would take place in Albany. Why? A handful of reasons.
1) Syracuse reportedly doesn't like staging exhibition games at home because of the high cost of doing so.
2) If Siena were to host the game, it would give the university a chance to properly honor Gerry McNamara, Gavin Doty, Francis Folefac and Tasman Goodrick. All four helped Siena make the NCAA Tournament this past season and the school would use the game as an opportunity to raise the MAAC championship banner at the MVP Arena.
--The Syracuse women's lacrosse team will play on Friday night against Loyala Maryland in the NCAA Tournament. You can read up more on the SU women here, thanks to Goslowski. The men will play Yale on Sunday (5 p.m. ET) at the Dome.
--The Jacksonville men's lacrosse team is also in the NCAA Tournament, and they are led by a Syracuse alum.
