The NCAA football transfer portal closes on Friday, and with that, we will have more clarity on how the Syracuse University football roster will look heading into spring practice and the 2026 campaign.
The Orange have already done a good job filling out the roster in the wake of a disappointing 3-9 campaign in 2025, but there were three more names added to the list on Friday morning, as noted by Mike McAllister of 247 Sports.
The three new additions to Syracuse football's transfer portal class include UCLA OL Oluwafunto Akinshilo, Western Kentucky DB Jai Eugene and Georgetown QB Danny Lauter.
The second defensive back from WKU to come to Syracuse (joining Nazir Ward), Eugene also played at Tulane. A Louisiana native, he'll have two years of eligibility remaining. He's played in 24 games over the last two seasons, registering 16 solo tackles and a sack.
It's always hard to get information on offensive linemen, but his prior experience playing in the Big Ten is a good plus for the Orange. Also, he played for new offensive line coach Juan Castillo at UCLA, so there's familiarity there. He will have one year of eligibility left after already spending time at UCLA (2024-25), Iowa State (2022-23) and El Camino College (2021).
Lauter is the second quarterback to join the Orange via the portal, joining Amari Odom, formerly of Kennesaw State. A Connecticut native, he'll come to Central New Year with two years of eligibility remaining.
He started 10 games for the Hoyas in 2025, throwing for 187.1 yards per game and 11 total touchdowns. Not much of a runner, he only had four rushing attempts all season.
Interestingly enough, his grandfather was a manager for the 1959 Syracuse national title team.
Georgetown went 6-6 at the FCS level.
Ahmad Miller, RB (Jackson State)
Jartavius Flounoy, DT (Georgia State)
Cole Weaver, WR (Miami of Ohio)
Ju'Juan Johnson, RB (LSU)
Michael Smith, TE (South Carolina)
Chris D'Appolonia, LB (Toledo)
Elijah Moore, WR (Florida State)
Keyshawn Johnson, Edge (UT-Martin)
Dillan Fontus, DL (Maryland)
Amari Odom, QB (Kennesaw State)
Amare Snowden, DB (Toledo)
Tunmise Adeleye, DE (UNLV)
Nazir Ward, DB (Western Kentucky)
Matthew Outten, WR (Penn State)
***It should be noted that Smith's transfer is evidently causing some hiccups. He reportedly wanted to return to South Carolina, but Syracuse is making that difficult.
--The Syracuse women's basketball team (15-3) defeated Cal on Thursday night in triple overtime at the JMA Wireless Dome.
--The Orange men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. ET) at Boston College. They are 12-5 and have won three straight games.
