Amari Odom will suit up for the Orange as Rickie Collins heads to Kennesaw State.

Apparently, the Syracuse University and Kennesaw State University football programs are engaging in a game of "QB Swap" this offseason.

The other day, Rickie Collins, who started five games at quarterback for the Orange in 2025, committed to Kennesaw State.

On Saturday, Amari Odom, who was a star for Kennesaw State, committed to Fran Brown's team.

Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports on social media:

Syracuse has signed Kennesaw State first-team all-conference QB Amari Odom, @chris_hummer and I have learned. Odom, who's repped by @CoachReedLive and @Chris_Coy of @KlutchSports, threw for 2,594 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. Also ran for 347 yards.

More on Odom

Odom will come to Syracuse with two years of eligibility left. He played two seasons at Wofford, but only accumulated one year of eligibility there. He then spent the 2025 season at Kennesaw State, completing 64.9 percent of his passes for the 19 touchdowns. He also had eight interceptions. Kennesaw State won 10 games and went 7-1 in Conference USA. They won the league title game over Jacksonville State.

At Wofford, he had 1,565 passing yards and seven touchdowns in 2024.

SU continues the trend

Earlier on Saturday, we made note that Syracuse appeared to be going after players who had already proven themselves in the portal, as opposed to players with potential that hadn't really gotten opportunities yet.

We also noted that Syracuse was having good success recruiting FCS players, and this backs that up. Odom joins Ahmed Miller (Jackson State), Jartavius Flouney (Georgia State) and Keyshawn Johnson (Tennessee-Martin) as players with FCS experience (Wofford) who have committed this offseason.

Syracuse had been connected to FCS quarterbacks (Western Carolina) QB Taron Dickens and (Mercer) Braden Atkinson. It's unclear if this signing takes them out of the running for those players.

About his opportunities

Steve Angeli won the quarterback job in camp last offseason and started the first four games for Syracuse, leading them to a 3-1 record. He then tore his Achilles in Game 4 and missed the rest of the season. He's going to be back in 2026 and figures to be the starter, though Odom may be able to push him for that job.

Who Syracuse has gained in the transfer portal

Ahmad Miller, RB (Jackson State)

Jartavius Flounoy, DT (Georgia State)
