Rickie Collins has a new home.

Brady Farkas on the new home for Rickie Collins.

Former highly-touted Syracuse University football recruit Rickie Collins has a new home, as the quarterback signed on with Kennesaw State through the transfer portal on Thursday.

About Collins

A Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, Collins began his collegiate career at LSU before transferring to Central New York in 2025. He was beaten out for the starting job by fellow transfer Steve Angeli, but still wound up starting five games once Angeli was injured and lost for the season.

Collins struggled, and the Orange lost all five of his starts en route to a 3-9 campaign. He completed just 53.6 percent of his passes for 1,042 yards. He threw six touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He threw for 279 yards in a loss against SMU on Oct. 4, but it came with three interceptions and a 48.9 percent completion percentage.

As a runner, he has some ability as well: He ran for 57 yards in that loss to SMU, and he also recorded more than 40 yards against Pitt and Georgia Tech.

Another transfer portal fact

Often times, we think of the transfer portal as a way for players to move "up" to bigger conferences. Almost every program feels like a feeder program for a university above it, but the portal can also be used for players to go down in level. In this case, Collins is dropping from the ACC to Conference USA, and perhaps that will be the perfect spot for him.

About Kennesaw State

The group went 10-4 this past season, finishing 7-1 inside league play, but they were throttled in the Myrtle Beach Bowl by Western Michigan (41-6).

How the Orange have done in the portal

SU had 30 of its own players enter the portal, and so far the program has gotten six new commitments from the portal. There's also a good possibility that receiver Umari Hatcher returns as well, as he withdrew his name from the portal on Thursday.

Here are the confirmed additions so far:

Ahmad Miller, RB (Jackson State)

Jartavius Flounoy, DT (Georgia State)

Cole Weaver, WR (Miami of Ohio)

Ju'Juan Johnson, RB (LSU)

Michael Smith, TE (South Carolina)

Chris D'Appolonia, LB (Toledo)

--The SU men are 10-5 overall and 1-1 inside league play. They'll take on Pitt on Saturday, also at 2 p.m. ET. That game will be played on the road.
