Thus far, the Syracuse University football program has gained six new additions via the transfer portal, and they may end up retaining one of their own players who entered the portal as well.
Per Chris Carlson of Syracuse.com:
Syracuse wide receiver Umari Hatcher's agent (@JMags89) says the WR has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal in anticipation of a return to Syracuse. He is in the process of seeking a medical waiver that would allow him to play a sixth season.
Hatcher has appeared in games for five collegiate seasons already, but he appeared in only four games as a freshman in 2021 and one game in 2025. That's why he is applying for the sixth season. In a rare twist, he's played every season at Syracuse, showing the kind of loyalty that is rarely seen in the current landscape of NIL and the portal.
He has 52 career receptions over 37 games, amassing 797 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. His best year was 2023, when he had 32 catches for 482 yards.

So far, Syracuse has lost Darrell Gill Jr. and Johntay Cook off last year's roster, while also adding receiver Cole Weaver from Miami of Ohio. The Orange are also bringing in top freshman recruit Calvin Russell out of Florida. He's enrolled in school early and will actually begin practicing immediately with the SU hoops team. He's one of the best recruits in Syracuse football history and is expected to play both sports.
Syracuse finished 3-9 in 2025 but the hope is that with a healthy Steve Angeli at quarterback, they can find a quick renaissance. The Orange won 10 games and captured the Holiday Bowl in 2024. Angeli won the starting job after transferring from Notre Dame in 2025 and had the Orange out to a 3-1 start before suffering a season-ending injury in the fourth game of the season.
