The Syracuse University football secured another transfer from the portal on Friday night, getting a commitment from edge rusher Keyshawn Johnson, who previously played at Tennessee-Martin of the FCS ranks.
Per Brent Axe of Syracuse.com:
UT-Martin EDGE @Keyshawn_15 has committed to (emoji's redacted) out of the transfer portal, he confirms to me tonight. Johnson had 13.5 sacks and 20 TFL last season and was the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson was named to the FCS AP All-American first team as well
He has played two seasons at Tennessee-Martin and one season at Grambling State, meaning that he has one year of eligibility left for the Orange. He also had 30 solo tackles in 2025 to go along with two forced fumbles. He hails from Bella Glade, Florida.
Syracuse had 30 of its own players enter the portal, and so far they've secured commitments from eight new players, including:
Ahmad Miller, RB (Jackson State)
Jartavius Flounoy, DT (Georgia State)
Cole Weaver, WR (Miami of Ohio)
Ju'Juan Johnson, RB (LSU)
Michael Smith, TE (South Carolina)
Chris D'Appolonia, LB (Toledo)
Elijah Moore, WR (Florida State)
Keyshawn Johnson, Edge (UT-Martin)
Wide receiver Umari Hatcher also withdrew his name from the portal and is seeking an NCAA waiver to return to Syracuse for a sixth season.
More Syracuse stories
Syracuse went just 3-9 in 2025, but a lot of that can be attributed to the injury at quarterback. Steve Angeli had the Orange out to a 3-1 start, but suffered a torn Achilles in the fourth game of the season, and SU lost the final eight games of the campaign.
With Angeli back in the fold for 2026, Syracuse should be in a position to be much better in the new year.
Johnson is the third player SU has secured from the FCS ranks, joining Miller and Flounoy. We've also seen them connected to FCS quarterbacks like Taron Dickens and Braden Atkinson.
--The Syracuse men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Pittsburgh as part of ACC play. The Orange are 10-5 on the season and 1-1 inside the league. The Panthers are 0-2 in the ACC and should provide Syracuse with another winnable contest.
The Orange defeated Georgia Tech on Tuesday night in Atlanta.
