The Tar Heels and Orange will square off later this month.
The Syracuse Orange could not hold on to a double-digit lead and lost a 10th straight ACC game, this time to the Virginia Cavaliers, 28-25, on Saturday night in Charlottesville, Va.
Quarterback Amari Odom, who made his first start for the Orange in a win against the UConn Huskies, was unavailable after suffering shoulder soreness during practice. He's already been ruled out for Saturday's contest (7:30 p.m. ET) against Louisville.
That will be the first home home for Syracuse in more than a month. Third-string quarterback Malachi Nelson earned the start last week but was also injured. Both he and original starter Steve Angeli are questionable for Saturday.
After the Cardinals and Orange clash, Syracuse will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels.
More details on that Oct. 24 matchup against UNC became clear earlier this week.
When will Syracuse and North Carolina football kick off?
7:30 p.m. ET. It will be the fourth conference game of the season for Syracuse. It will also be the third consecutive night game for the Orange, who will have played 7:30 p.m. games against Virginia, Louisville, and UNC.
An interesting twist
For the second time in two years, Syracuse could start an originally slated fourth-string quarterback against the Tar Heels. Rarely do any football teams at any level of play find themselves playing a fourth string quarterback. However that scenario is in play for later this month. Of course, it all depends on how things trend for Nelson and Angeli this week.
In 2025, Syracuse started four quarterbacks: Angeli, Rickie Collins, Luke Carney and Joe Filardi.
Filardi is still on the team but also competes as a member of the Orange's lacrosse team as well.
Scouting the Tar Heels
North Carolina sits at 3-2 on the season. After a season opening in Ireland against TCU, the Tar Heels added victories againt East Tennessee State and Pittsburgh. The two defeats came against Clemson and Notre Dame. This weekend, North Carolina takes on their rival, the Duke Blue Devils. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
The Tar Heels are led by legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick and the Tar Heels defeated Syracuse on Halloween last season, 27-10.
What does the rest of the Syracuse Orange football schedule look like?
October 17 vs. Louisville, 7:30 p.m. ET
October 24 @ North Carolina 7:30 p.m. ET
October 31 @ SMU , TBD
*The Orange would be offered an opportunity to compete in a bowl game if the team wins six or more total games. The potential bowl game time and date would be determined on Dec. 6* Right now, Syracuse is 2-3.
