Update, 9:00 p.m. ET: According to Brent Axe of Syracuse.com, both players are injured. Anthony has a lower-body injury and White has a shoulder issue.
8:45 p.m. ET: The Syracuse University men's basketball team is dealing with at least one notable absence for Saturday's regular season finale at the JMA Wireless Dome against Pittsburgh (4:30 p.m. ET).
Per Pete Thamel of ESPN, freshman Kiyan Anthony will not play. Freshman Sadiq White Jr. is listed as questionable, though there have been no reasons given for the designations.
The Orange enter play at 15-15 overall and 6-11 inside Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play. A win would assure them a winning regular season and it's harder to come by if Anthony and White don't play. A win would also better their seed for the looming conference tournament, which is next week in Charlotte, N.C.
Pitt is 11-19 and 4-13. SU beat the Panthers earlier this season in Pittsburgh.
The son of Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony, it's been an up-and-down season for Kiyan. His playing time has fluctuated, as have his point totals. He's averaging 18.7 minutes per game, though that's been reduced in conference play, to go along with 8.0 ppg.
His playing time has been a source of consternation for fans. Some think he plays too much, some think he plays not enough.
At this best, Anthony is a smart player who is capable of getting into the lane and drawing contact. He finishes well around the rim and is a good decision maker with the ball in his hands.
As he ages, he'll need to improve his strength so he can absorb that contact better and handle defensive responsibilities easier. He's also only a 25 percent three-point shooter and a 63 percent free-throw shooter.
Syracuse Orange guard Kiyan Anthony (7) warms up prior to the game against the North Carolina Tar Heels at the JMA Wireless Dome. Rich Barnes-Imagn ImagesAn uber-athletic forward, White hails from North Carolina. He's averaging 6.1 ppg while shooting 54 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from three in a limited sample size. He has appeared in all 30 games in this campaign, also securing 3.3 rebounds per night.
--The Syracuse University women's basketball team was upended in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on Friday afternoon, falling to Louisville. The Orange will now wait for the March 15 selection show to see if they make the NCAA Tournament, which they are expected to do.
--Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli, working back from a torn Achilles, was ranked as the No. 32 quarterback among Power Four quarterbacks by ESPN on Thursday. You can read more on that here.
