The Orange dropped their contest against North Carolina now await their fate for the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 3 seed Syracuse University men's lacrosse team dropped its Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament (ACC) semifinal against No. 2 North Carolina on Friday night in Charlotte, N.C.

The 12-10 loss was a hotly contested back-and-forth affair and continued a wild night of ACC Tournament action. Top-seeded Notre Dame lost in the first semifinal against No. 4 Virginia.

Here's everything you need to know from the defeat.

Orange missed their chances

Syracuse led 6-4 at the end of the first half but weren't able to hold serve in the second half. The Orange were outscored 8-4 in the second stanza, as multiple penalties led to North Carolina scoring opportunities.

Beyond that:

--Joey Spallina, the program's all-time leading scorer, had no goals but did register four assists.

--Michael Leo had three goals and one assist. He took 10 total shots.

--Jimmy McCool had nine saves in the cage for the Orange.

What happens now

The Orange are now 11-5 on the season and will wait for their fate with regards to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is set for Sunday and the Orange are still expected to get an at-large bid.

The selection show is at 9:30 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN U.

Eighteen teams make the tournament, so it's plausible that all five ACC teams make the tournament, including Duke, who didn't even make the league tournament.

Tournament action begins on May 9. The title game is always on Memorial Day.

Syracuse was in the Final Four last season. They last played for a championship in 2013 when they lost to Duke. SU won the 2008 championship against Johns Hopkins and the 2009 championship over Cornell.

The Orange won the league title a year ago en route to that Final Four berth.

Also on campus

--The Syracuse men's basketball program solidified a non-conference matchup for the 2026-27 season with the University at Albany. Head coach Gerry McNamara obviously knows Albany's Dwayne Killings through his time at Siena. The Great Danes went 11-21 last season.

No date for the game has been announced yet, but it's fair to assume it will be one of the earliest non-conference games in November, or in the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas but before Atlantic Coast Conference play.

McNamara has indicated the program is also looking to play a game at Madison Square Garden. Our assumptions are that this would be against former SU player Donnie Freeman and St. John's, but that's not known for sure.

--The Syracuse women's basketball program has a new transfer from Temple. Read more about Jalessa Molina here. The Syracuse women reached the NCAA Tournament this past season.
