Ibrahim Souare is on the board!

The Syracuse University men's basketball team moved to 7-4 on Wednesday night with a 76-62 win over visiting Mercyhurst at the JMA Wireless Dome. Five different members of the Orange scored in double-figures, but it was someone that didn't score in double-figures who grabbed headlines.

Redshirt sophomore Ibrahim Souare hit two free-throws and made his first field goal of the season in the victory. He had played nearly 90 minutes this season before scoring his first field goal. As noted by the ACC Network Extra broadcast, the next-most minutes played in the nation without a field goal? Twenty-three.

After the game, head coach Adrian Autry spoke about Suoare:

He's a guy that's very active and he stays around the rim. And the things that we talked about for him was being able to, you know, he gets his hands on balls and he gets rebounds and things like that. So him being able to cash those in a lot of times, you know, I thought he had some times this year earlier where he was around the rim and he could have finished so we've just been talking about that because he works so hard and he's very active.

So when he gets his hands on some rebounds, offensive rebounds sometimes, and he has the opportunity to put it back in: I've been really coaching him hard on that. Like he has to put it back in and today he did. So that was his first field goal for the season. So, I think everyone was pretty excited. And he knocked down two free throws. That was big.

    About Suoare

A sophomore from Guinea, he previously played at Georgia Tech, where he played in all 30 games. He also made 14 regular season starts as a freshman, averaging 3.9 ppg. Scoring is not foreign to him, so perhaps the Orange will see an uptick in offensive production as the season goes on.
