Here's the latest on Chance Berry, a highly-decorated recruit from the Class of 2027.
According to On3's Talia Goodman, highly-rated women's basketball recruit Chance Berry is still considering Syracuse as part of her recruitment.
A 5'11 forward from the class of 2027, Berry is from Ontario, Canada. She spoke to Goodman about Syracuse, as well as some of her other choices, including Texas Tech, West Virginia and Arizona State.
Berry was complimentary of each program and her talks with them, but she offered up a small nugget on her talks with the Orange.
It’s been good with them. I’m working on a good time to go on probably an unofficial with them. It’s been good. It’s been pretty chill and it’s been consistent.”
Berry will graduate high school in 2027, which means she'd be able to play for Syracuse in the winter of 2027-28.
Berry has represented Canada on the FIBA national team circuit, giving her some key international experience and showing her talent and upside.
What Syracuse has going for it
First off, SU can sell itself to Berry as a winning program, and that's the most important thing of all. The Orange finished in a tie for fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) this past season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 9 seed.
Not only did Syracuse make the tournament, they won a game in the tournament, beating No. 8 Iowa State in the Round of 64. Syracuse eventually lost to UConn in the Round of 32, but they've shown that the program can compete on a national level, and that should be appealing to Berry - or any recruit.
Secondly, Syracuse has the location advantage that none of those other schools have. Syracuse is by far the closest program to her home in Ontario, so if the ability to go home, or have friends and family come watch games is important to her, Syracuse has to capitalize on that.
Thirdly, as an ACC program, the opportunity to play in big venues against historic competition is very real, and appealing. NIL opportunities are also solid in the ACC, though these advantages are not that pronounced over the other schools, as they also have similar situations.
