While four games isn't a huge sample size, it's a big enough sample size to start to draw some impressions about this team, and two really stand out after Tuesday.
The Orange entered play at 319th in the nation in free-throw percentage and they are down to 321st after a 19-of-33 performance at the charity stripe.
Donnie Freeman did his part, going 12-of-14, but everyone else? Just 7-of-19. At 63.46 percent, the Orange won't have the ability to keep games close, and they won't have the ability to close out games.
That's what happened on Tuesday, as a double-digit lead evaporated over the final minutes. Monmouth had a chance to tie with 10 seconds to play, all because the Orange were unable to cement the victory when they had the chance.
In addition to poor free-throw shooting, the Orange struggle from distance as well. They are 249th nationally in three-point percentage, but Kingz is the one guy who can really shoot it well from beyond-the-arc.
He went 3-of-7 in the win and the team will need him to be "on" quite a bit if they are going to do damage in the way they aspire to. He spoke after the game about his mindset and maintaining confidence in his shooting ability.
"I wouldn't say too much changed. I just stayed confident, a mindset thing, just kept shooting, I mean, I missed a lot, but still kept on shooting and kept that confidence."
"Coaches, teammates, everybody emphasizing 'shoot the ball, don't hesitate,' even if I miss four or five a row they still just feed me the confidence, which is great."
Kingz, a senior from Oregon, has had quite the collegiate journey. He began his career at Westmont (NAIA) before going to Southern Idaho (Junior College). He then played a season at Oregon State before joining the Orange.
To his point above, he hasn't gotten going just yet, shooting only 26.3 percent from three, but as the one guy on this roster who can really light it up, they'll need him to have more games like Tuesday.
The Orange will play No. 2 Houston on Nov. 24 as part of the Players Era Championship. The games will be played in Las Vegas.
