The Syracuse football team went just 3-9 last season, but we've already covered multiple reasons why we believe the Orange can rebound in 2026.

Couple those reasons, with the lack of dominance from the conference as a whole, and the possibility of a turnaround seems even greater for Fran Brown's team.

On Monday, we discussed which transfer portal players SU fans should be most excited about, but there is another portal addition that simply intrigues us: Wide receiver Elijah Moore of Florida State.

A Maryland native, he has only five catches in two seasons, totaling 69 yards. As noted by Brent Axe of Syracuse.com earlier this offseason, he has three years of eligibility left because he earned a redshirt for one of his seasons. He was the No. 1 player in Maryland for his recruiting class. 

He's listed at 6-foot-4 and was ranked as the No. 19 wide receiver nationally upon entering college.

While it's fair to say that he's a relative unknown that the Orange can't necessarily count on to provide big offensive numbers, it's also fair to say players with his kind of pedigree don't grow on trees, especially at Syracuse. 

The size and athleticism are special, and they are traits that SU will hope to exploit in the new season.

Tight end Dan Villari has graduated and moved onto the NFL while running back Will Nixon is gone as well. Darrell Gill, the team's top wide receiver from 2025, transferred to Ole Miss and receiver Johntay Cook II transferred also. Top returning running back Yasin Willis left the program too.

That means there are ample chances for players to step up and grab opportunity, and Moore seems to be near the top of the list, especially with top wide receiver recruit Calvin Russell expected to miss most or all of the season with a torn Achilles suffered in spring practice.

Congratulations are in order for now-former SU lacrosse star Joey Spallina, who won the accuracy challenge at the 2026 PLL All-Star Game festivities on Sunday.

Spallina, who is a member of the Maryland Whipsnakes, rifled shot after shot at targets set up in various spots around the cage, doing so with maximum accuracy and high-end velocity. Knowing he had already won, he even produced some trick shots at the end.

Spallina is the all-time leading scorer in program history and just helped lead the Orange to the NCAA Final Four.
