TCU baseball showed flashes of fight Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, but against No. 1 UCLA, flashes weren’t enough.
The seventh-ranked Horned Frogs were run-ruled 15-5 as the Bruins used two explosive innings to finish off a weekend sweep.
TCU now sits at 2-5 on the season and has dropped five straight for the first time since 2024.
The Frogs actually struck first. Sawyer Strosnider set the tone early, drawing a walk and later racing home on a perfectly executed base-running play after Nolan Traeger singled. TCU grabbed a 1-0 lead before UCLA’s bats woke up.
The Bruins answered with back-to-back two-out home runs in the second, flipping momentum instantly. TCU responded again in the third when Cole Cramer scored on Strosnider’s triple, and Chase Brunson tied the game with an infield single.
It was 4-4 midway through, thanks to Strosnider’s third home run of the season, a solo shot that briefly reignited belief.
But UCLA’s lineup never let the pressure ease. A leadoff double and a wild pitch opened the door in the fifth, and the Bruins capitalized.
A four-run sixth inning stretched the margin, and a six-run eighth slammed it shut.
Lucas Franco provided a late spark with his second career home run, but by then the deficit was too steep.
Strosnider continued his steady production, reaching base for the 23rd consecutive game dating back to last season. He finished with a multi-hit effort and multiple RBIs, adding to an already consistent start to 2026.
On the mound, Uli Fernsler made his collegiate debut as a starter, allowing three runs over two innings. Tanner Sagouspe absorbed the loss after surrendering two runs in relief.
One quirky stat: all eight of TCU’s home runs this season have been solo blasts — power without traffic.
The Frogs close their West Coast trip Monday at LMU, searching for momentum before heading home.
