TCU Rallies Late Behind Xavier Edmonds’ Double-Double to Beat WVU cover image

Xavier Edmonds posts 14 points, 13 rebounds as TCU closes on a 17-5 run to defeat West Virginia 60-54 in Big 12 action.

FORT WORTH - It wasn’t pretty. It was gritty. And for TCU, it was necessary. The Horned Frogs dug deep Saturday in Fort Worth, closing on a 17-5 run to knock off West Virginia 60-54 and even their Big 12 record at 7-7.

In a game defined by cold shooting and defensive toughness, Xavier Edmonds once again delivered.

Edmonds finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds, marking his third straight double-double and eighth in his last nine games.

The sophomore forward has quietly become one of the most consistent rebounders in the conference, boosting his season averages to 12.4 points and 6.2 boards per game.

TCU (17-10) didn’t make it easy on itself. The Horned Frogs opened the second half ice cold, missing eight of their first nine shots. Later, they bricked eight in a row.

West Virginia capitalized, building a 49-43 lead with just under eight minutes to play. Then the switch flipped.

David Punch knocked down a much-needed jumper to cut the deficit to one. Brock Harding attacked the rim for back-to-back layups, and Punch followed with two of his own, giving TCU a 56-52 advantage with 1:36 left. Clutch free throws sealed it from there.

Punch finished with 12 points, Harding added 11, and Liutauras Lelevicius sparked the first half with 14 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers that helped TCU take a 30-25 lead into halftime.

West Virginia (16-11) couldn’t buy a bucket late, managing just two points over the final four minutes and finishing 1-for-6 during that stretch. Honor Huff led the Mountaineers with 13 points.

TCU shot just 34 percent from the field but leaned on defense and rebounding to move to 12-5 at home.

Next up, Arizona State comes to Fort Worth ... and if Edmonds keeps stacking double-doubles, the Frogs will keep stacking wins.
