TCU gets another crack at a national heavyweight Tuesday night when the Horned Frogs host No. 5 Iowa State at Schollmaier Arena.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on FS1, marking the fourth time this season TCU has welcomed a top-10 opponent to Fort Worth - an unprecedented stretch in program history.
The Frogs enter the matchup at 14-9 overall and 4-6 in Big 12 play, but recent results suggest they are far more dangerous than their record indicates.
Six of TCU’s nine losses have been decided by six points or fewer, and the Horned Frogs are coming off an emotional 84-82 comeback win over Kansas State after trailing by 18.
Sophomore forward David Punch continues to anchor the lineup, leading TCU in both scoring (14.3 points per game) and rebounding (7.2). Punch has also been a force defensively, averaging 2.1 blocks per game, which ranks second in the Big 12 and among the top 20 nationally.
Xavier Edmonds has surged as well, earning his second Big 12 Starting Five honor while posting five straight double-doubles. Over his last five games, Edmonds is averaging 19.6 points and 10.4 rebounds while shooting an efficient 58.1 percent in conference play.
Ball movement and pressure defense remain strengths for Jamie Dixon’s group.
Brock Harding dishes out 6.1 assists per game, ranks among the Big 12 leaders in steals, and helps fuel a TCU defense that forces nearly 14 turnovers per contest and thrives in transition.
Iowa State arrives with a 21-2 record and one of the most balanced profiles in college basketball. The Cyclones shoot over 40 percent from 3, rank top-10 nationally in both offensive and defensive efficiency, and feature elite guard play led by Tamin Lipsey.
For TCU, Tuesday night represents an opportunity.
The Frogs have beaten top-10 teams at home before, and with momentum building, another signature win would instantly reshape their Big 12 outlook.
