TCU freshman Cameron Kuchar shared medalist honors at 9 under as the Horned Frogs finished three shots behind Liberty at the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati.
Cameron Kuchar needed only two college tournaments to collect his first victory.
The TCU freshman finished the Bearcat Invitational at 9-under 204 on Tuesday, sharing medalist honors with Liberty junior Michael Lugiano at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati.
Kuchar closed with a 2-under 69 after entering the final round tied for the lead.
Kuchar made four birdies Tuesday while playing both the front and back nine in 1 under. His three-round card of 68, 67 and 69 gave him a steady path through the par-71 course and kept him level with Lugiano when neither player could create separation.
It’s an early breakthrough for a freshman who arrived at TCU carrying a familiar name—and substantial expectations.
Kuchar is the son of nine-time PGA Tour winner Matt Kuchar, but the younger golfer has already built an impressive résumé of his own.
Cameron and Matt won the 2025 PNC Championship by seven strokes, setting tournament records with a 33-under total and a final-round 54.
During that event, Matt said his son had “turned into a sparring partner,” reflecting Cameron’s development from junior golfer into a legitimate high-level competitor.
His Bearcat Invitational victory adds an individual college title to that progression.
Kuchar also continued a recent freshman trend for TCU. Nathan Miller shared the Watersound Invitational championship last season, making this the second consecutive year in which a Horned Frogs freshman has won a tournament.
Before Miller, Julien Brun had been the program’s most recent freshman winner in 2012.
TCU nearly paired Kuchar’s individual championship with a team title. The Horned Frogs began Tuesday three shots behind Liberty and traded positions with the Flames during the final round.
Both teams posted 1-under 283s, allowing Liberty to preserve its advantage.
The Flames finished at 15-under 837, while TCU placed second at 12-under 840. Host Cincinnati climbed to third at 10 under, two strokes behind the Horned Frogs.
Sam Udovich gave TCU a second top-10 finisher, tying for sixth at 4-under 208 after a closing 70. Charlie Wylie and Toby Wilt shared 35th at 2-over 215, while Miller tied for 55th at 5-over 218.
Kuchar’s victory came just 11 days after he finished tied for 27th in his college debut in Japan.
His rapid jump from an opening-event learning experience to a tournament champion gives TCU another potential difference-maker ... and suggests the Kuchar name will remain prominent in golf for another generation.
