Dee Winters delivered nine tackles and a key fumble recovery as former TCU players made their presence felt across the NFL in Week 2.
Former TCU football players were scattered across the NFL again this weekend, and Dee Winters produced the strongest performance of the bunch.
The Dallas Cowboys linebacker finished with nine tackles, seven solo stops and a fumble recovery in a 37-20 victory over Washington.
Winters’ biggest moment came when rookie Jaishawn Barham forced a fumble and the former Horned Frog recovered it, helping Dallas turn a defensive takeaway into points.
Winters has quickly become a significant piece of the Cowboys defense after arriving from San Francisco. Through two games, he has 13 total tackles and is coming off exactly the type of impact performance Dallas hoped to get from him.
Tre’von Moehrig also enjoyed a productive Sunday.
The Carolina safety recorded five tackles, including three solo, as the Panthers dismantled Atlanta 34-3. Moehrig didn’t need a splash play to make an impact; he helped anchor a defense that allowed Atlanta almost nothing offensively.
The offensive results were less exciting.
Chargers receiver Quentin Johnston caught just one pass for seven yards and added a seven-yard rush during Los Angeles’ 26-14 loss to Las Vegas. Through two games, Johnston has three receptions for 24 yards, making his slow start one of the more disappointing developments among former Frogs.
Fellow Chargers weapon Derius Davis did not record a reception.
For Dallas, KaVontae Turpin contributed one rushing yard but continues to provide value as a return specialist. He has already returned nine kickoffs for 244 yards, averaging 27.1 yards per return this season.
Not every former Frog suited up. Saints running back Kendre Miller was a healthy scratch against Baltimore after scoring a touchdown in Week 1, while Bengals cornerback Josh Newton was inactive against Houston.
TCU fans still have two players to watch Monday night.
