Former TCU safety Jacob Fields was arrested Sunday on an aggravated assault charge stemming from an alleged locker room altercation with a teammate.
Former TCU safety Jacob Fields was arrested Sunday in Fort Worth on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, adding another serious development to a locker room incident that had already led to his dismissal from the Horned Frogs.
Fields’ agent, Philip Miller, told ESPN that the former TCU defender turned himself in and was being held at the Tarrant County Jail.
Miller said Fields was expected to be released on bond Sunday. The charge stems from an alleged Aug. 13 altercation involving TCU wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma.
According to ESPN, Fields is accused of punching Ezukanma inside the TCU locker room.
The program’s general manager reported the incident to police the following day, and TCU dismissed Fields from the team on Aug. 18. Fields has not been convicted, and the allegation remains subject to the legal process.
Ezukanma later addressed the incident in a social-media video that was subsequently removed.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Ezukanma said he was knocked unconscious after his head hit the floor. He did not travel with TCU for Saturday’s season-opening 15-10 loss to North Carolina in Dublin.
The situation is particularly notable because Fields had been expected to play a significant role in TCU’s secondary this season.
He transferred to Fort Worth after two years at Louisiana Tech and entered the program with substantial defensive experience.
Fields had previously recorded 54 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions in 2024 before becoming one of Louisiana Tech’s top defenders the following season.
ESPN reported that Fields finished 2025 with 92 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions while earning Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors.
He entered TCU’s offseason as a leading candidate to replace Bud Clark, who moved on to the NFL.
TCU coach Sonny Dykes addressed the locker room situation while the team was in Ireland, describing it as out of character and saying the program viewed the episode as a teaching moment.
Now the matter has moved well beyond a football depth-chart issue.
TCU has already moved forward without Fields on the roster, but the legal case ensures the incident will remain part of the conversation surrounding the program as the 2026 season continues.
