Kirstin Angosta finished sixth at 6-under as TCU women’s golf placed fifth at the Schooner Fall Classic, with three Horned Frogs under par.
FORT WORTH - Kirstin Angosta continues to give TCU women’s golf exactly what it needs from its most experienced player.
The senior finished tied for sixth at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma, closing the 54-hole event at 6-under 204 and extending her streak of top-10 finishes to four.
Angosta posted rounds of 66, 68 and 70 at Belmar Golf Club, playing every round at par or better. She also finished as TCU’s top golfer for the ninth time in her career.
TCU couldn’t quite finish off what had been a promising weekend as a team.
The No. 27 Horned Frogs opened the tournament with a 10-under 270 to grab the first-round lead, then entered Monday tied for second after two rounds. A final-round 285 dropped TCU to fifth place at 8-under 832.
Still, the Horned Frogs finished ahead of several notable Big 12 opponents, including No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 29 UCF and Baylor.
Camille Min-Gaultier gave TCU another strong showing, finishing tied for 14th at 4-under 206 after rounds of 66, 68 and 72. The result marked the 19th top-20 finish of her college career.
Freshman Ella Forss also stayed under par for the tournament, finishing at 1-under 209. Forss has now been TCU’s third-best finisher in both of her first two collegiate starts.
TCU assistant coach and players had plenty to like early in the weekend, particularly after the Horned Frogs piled up 23 birdies in the opening round.
The final round was tougher.
TCU managed only 10 birdies Monday and just two on the back nine, preventing the Horned Frogs from keeping pace with eventual champion Iowa State.
The No. 17 Cyclones dominated the field, finishing at a tournament-record 30-under 810 and winning by 17 shots.
TCU now gets a short break before returning Oct. 5-7 for The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
For Angosta, though, the message is already clear: her senior season is off to another high-level start.
