No. 11 TCU rallied past West Virginia in four sets to improve to 11-2 and 2-0 in Big 12 play, extending one of the hottest runs in the country.
No. 11 TCU volleyball is doing more than winning right now, the Horned Frogs are building a serious Big 12 resume.
TCU went on the road Sunday and beat West Virginia 3-1, improving to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play while extending its winning streak to nine matches.
The Frogs had to earn this one.
West Virginia took the opening set 25-18, but TCU responded by winning the next three, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17. The fourth set was especially emphatic, with TCU hitting .480 while holding the Mountaineers to just .030.
Becca Kelley again led the way offensively.
Kelley finished with 17 kills on a .368 hitting percentage and added 11 digs, giving TCU another dependable two-way performance from one of its most productive attackers.
Evan Hendrix added 14 kills and 11 digs, while Jalyn Gibson chipped in eight kills and two service aces.
Setter Rosemary Archer continued to control the offense with 34 assists and 15 digs, while Alice Volpe led the back row with 16 digs and three aces.
The balance is becoming one of TCU’s biggest strengths.
The Horned Frogs finished with 53 kills, nine aces and 67 digs, while hitting .254 for the match. They also held West Virginia to a .201 hitting percentage overall.
Sunday’s win came two days after TCU opened Big 12 play with a sweep of Cincinnati, where the Frogs held the Bearcats to a .118 hitting percentage and got 13 kills from Kelley and 12 from Hendrix.
That means TCU has opened conference play with two road wins while dropping only one set.
Not bad for a team that entered the weekend already riding a seven-match winning streak.
The next challenge comes at home.
TCU returns to Schollmaier Arena to host Colorado on Friday before facing UCF on Sunday.
At this point, the Frogs aren’t just carrying momentum. They’re starting to look like a team that can make real noise in the Big 12 race.
