Despite a winless start, Los Angeles is rebuffing inquiries for their former first-round receiver as the trade deadline nears, choosing potential over a total roster fire sale.

Former TCU standout Quentin Johnston is once again finding himself at the center of NFL trade speculation as the Los Angeles Chargers attempt to navigate a difficult start to the 2026 season.

The Chargers have received trade inquiries regarding several veteran players, including Johnston and star pass rusher Khalil Mack. However, Los Angeles reportedly has no immediate plans to move either player despite getting off to an 0-6 start.

The report, citing Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, indicated that general manager Joe Hortiz and head coach Jim Harbaugh have so far rejected trade inquiries rather than begin selling off pieces of their roster. The organization reportedly does not want to wave the white flag on its season just yet.

Johnston's inclusion in those conversations is noteworthy given the potential he has shown throughout his NFL career. The former TCU receiver entered the league as a first-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, giving the Horned Frogs another prominent representative at the professional level.

At TCU, Johnston established himself as one of the most physically gifted receivers in college football. His combination of size and speed helped make him an attractive NFL prospect. Those same qualities continue to give him value, even as questions emerge about his future in Los Angeles.

For the Chargers, the decision surrounding Johnston could become more complicated as the trade deadline approaches. A team sitting at 0-6 has plenty of reasons to evaluate its roster and consider whether moving certain players could help improve its long-term outlook. However, the organization appears determined to see whether it can turn things around before making significant changes.

Mack's name appearing alongside Johnston also highlights the difficult position Los Angeles currently finds itself in. The Chargers have recognizable talent on both sides of the football, but their winless record has naturally created speculation about possible roster moves.

For Johnston, remaining in Los Angeles would give him an opportunity to continue developing and potentially become a bigger part of the offense. A trade, meanwhile, could provide a fresh start with another organization and a different offensive system.

Nothing in the latest report suggests that a Johnston trade is imminent. Still, his name being mentioned in discussions around the league is something TCU fans will want to monitor as the November 10 trade deadline gets closer.
