TCU baseball brings a three-game winning streak into a key Big 12 home series against Houston at Lupton Stadium this weekend.
TCU baseball is starting to heat up at the right time, and the Horned Frogs get another chance to build momentum this weekend at Lupton Stadium.
TCU opens a three-game Big 12 series against Houston on Friday night in Fort Worth, continuing a five-game homestand after pushing its winning streak to three with a midweek victory over Dallas Baptist.
The Horned Frogs enter the weekend 25-15 overall and 10-8 in Big 12 play, while Houston arrives at 18-21 and 4-14 in conference action.
For TCU, the recent formula has been pretty clear: keep fighting late, keep getting quality starts and keep stacking extra-base hits.
The Frogs have already produced 14 comeback wins this season, including 10 games in which they trailed by multiple runs. They’ve also erased eighth-inning deficits twice in their last two games.
That late-game toughness has helped TCU climb to No. 41 in the latest RPI report, a useful boost as the postseason race tightens.
The Horned Frogs’ offense has found more punch, too. TCU has hit 24 home runs over its last 16 games and has 47 on the season.
The Frogs also rank 13th nationally with 239 walks and have collected 16 extra-base hits across their last four games. Chase Brunson has been one of the hottest bats, hitting .533 with eight RBIs during that stretch.
The weekend pitching plan starts with Trever Baumler on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Lance Davis on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Zack James on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Davis and James have each pitched into the seventh inning in three straight weeks, giving TCU valuable stability.
Houston snapped a two-game skid with a 4-3 win at Rice but has won just three of its last 10 games. Tyler Cox leads the Cougars with a .318 average, while Xavier Perez has a team-best nine home runs and 31 RBIs.
TCU has dominated the recent series, winning 12 of the last 13 meetings against Houston since 2011.
