TCU baseball adds former Texas catcher Andrew Ermis, a high-OBP bat with JUCO power, as the Horned Frogs keep stacking portal talent.
TCU baseball just reached across the rivalry aisle and grabbed another interesting piece for its 2027 roster.
Former Texas catcher Andrew Ermis is headed to Fort Worth after one season with the Longhorns, giving the Horned Frogs another experienced bat and a versatile catching option as their transfer portal heater keeps rolling.
For a TCU program looking to reload with proven college production, Ermis fits the mold.
The numbers at Texas came in a small sample, but they were loud. Ermis appeared in 14 games during the 2026 season, started seven and hit .353 with a massive .571 on-base percentage.
He finished with six hits and five RBIs in just 17 at-bats, showing he could handle opportunities when they came.
The bigger get, though, comes from his time at Temple College.
Before joining the Longhorns, Ermis played two seasons at the JUCO level and became one of the Leopards’ most dangerous hitters.
As a sophomore in 2025, he led Temple College with a .338 batting average, 10 home runs, 41 RBIs, a .479 on-base percentage and a .588 slugging percentage.
Ermis played in 98 games and made 91 starts at Temple, so TCU isn’t adding a mystery player.
The Horned Frogs are getting a catcher who has logged real innings, controlled the strike zone and flashed legitimate offensive upside.
His arrival also continues a busy portal push for TCU. The Frogs have already added Saint Mary’s outfielder Tanner Griffith, UW-Milwaukee catcher/outfielder Dominic Kibler, Midland College infielder Bammer Maes, catcher Caleb Eagar, Coastal Carolina infielder Trace Mazon, Mississippi State outfielder James Nunnallee and Flagler College utility piece George Gilson.
That’s a lot of fresh firepower.
For Ermis, the move to TCU offers a chance to turn a limited Texas role into a bigger senior-season opportunity. For the Horned Frogs, it’s another aggressive swing in a roster rebuild that suddenly looks pretty dangerous.
