TCU basketball doesn’t need extra motivation heading into the NCAA Tournament, but it just got some anyway.
As the Horned Frogs prepare for their first-round showdown with Ohio State, the outside projections are leaning hard toward the Buckeyes.
According to ESPN’s predictive model, Ohio State has a 65.4 percent chance of winning the matchup. That’s a nice number for Buckeye fans. It might be an even nicer one for a TCU team that has spent plenty of this season proving people wrong.
And that’s what makes this game so interesting.
TCU didn’t stumble into the bracket. The Frogs built momentum late, ripping off six straight wins before finally getting tripped up by Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament.
That stretch gave them exactly what teams want entering March ... belief, rhythm, and a little edge.
Ohio State has its own late surge, sure, but this isn’t some overwhelming giant staring down an overmatched opponent.
This is an 8-9 game. That usually means chaos is lurking anyway. The bigger point is that TCU has every reason to embrace the disrespect.
Predictive percentages are cute until the ball goes up. Then it becomes about toughness, execution, and who handles the pressure better.
The Horned Frogs have shown they can play through contact, defend with force, and make life miserable when the game gets ugly. That matters a lot more in March than spreadsheet confidence.
And let’s be honest, outside projections rarely mean much once tournament nerves hit.
For TCU, this becomes a simple message ... the country may like Ohio State, but none of that changes what happens in the first four minutes, the last four minutes, or the possessions in between.
If anything, that 65.4 percent number gives the Frogs something to throw on the mental bulletin board before tipoff. That’s dangerous for Ohio State.
Because if TCU comes in with the same bite it showed during that late-season push, this matchup could flip in a hurry.
The Horned Frogs don’t need a model to tell them what they are. They just need 40 minutes to show it.
