TCU baseball freshman Lance Davis earned NCBWA First-Team Freshman All-American honors after becoming the Frogs’ most reliable arm.

TCU baseball has a new freshman arm worth building around, and Lance Davis just got the national recognition to prove it.

Davis was named an NCBWA First-Team Freshman All-American after delivering one of the strongest rookie pitching seasons in recent TCU baseball history.

For a Horned Frogs program that expects young arms to grow up fast, Davis didn’t just survive the jump. He looked comfortable taking the ball in big spots.

The freshman right-hander led TCU with 80 innings pitched and 14 starts, finishing the season 5-3 with a 3.71 ERA.

He also produced eight quality starts, threw two complete games and ranked second on the team with 51 strikeouts.

That’s not a soft freshman resume, that’s a weekend-rotation foundation.

Davis also held opposing hitters to a .236 batting average, giving TCU a reliable strike-thrower who could eat innings and keep games from spiraling.

In a sport where bullpens can get torched by long weekends and tight Big 12 series, that kind of durability matters.

His biggest moments came against quality competition. Davis earned Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week honors twice, first after tossing seven shutout innings against UCF on March 23.

He grabbed the award again on May 18 after delivering a complete-game shutout at No. 9 West Virginia.

That second outing was the kind of performance that makes people stop calling a player “promising” and start calling him dangerous.

Davis was also a second-team All-Big 12 selection, stacking conference respect on top of national attention.

For head coach Kirk Saarloos, it continues a strong developmental trend. Since Saarloos arrived on campus in 2013, TCU has now had 23 players earn Freshman All-American honors.
