TCU football has the talent, quarterback upside and Big 12 chaos working in its favor entering a wide-open 2026 season.

TCU football is sitting in one of the most dangerous spots in the 2026 Big 12 race: good enough to matter, overlooked enough to strike.

In a conference where Arizona State can go from 3-9 to champion and traditional favorites can wobble overnight, the Horned Frogs don’t need to be perfect. They just need to be ready. CBS Sports offered its Big 12 post-spring power rankings.

And after spring ball, TCU looks a lot more interesting than people may realize.

The Horned Frogs land in that second tier of Big 12 contenders behind teams like BYU and Texas Tech, but this league hasn’t exactly rewarded safe predictions lately.

Eight of the last nine Big 12 title games have featured at least one new participant, which means volatility isn’t a bug. It’s the brand.

That’s where Sonny Dykes’ team becomes fascinating.

TCU returns multiple starters along the offensive line, which is a massive starting point in a conference loaded with defensive questions.

The Frogs also bring back more than half of their defense from a roster that already stacked up well from a talent standpoint. That combination gives TCU a real foundation, especially if the offense finds a higher gear.

The swing piece is transfer quarterback Jaden Craig.

Craig arrives with breakout potential, and Dykes has made a career out of getting quarterbacks comfortable and dangerous. If Craig becomes more than just steady, TCU’s ceiling changes fast.

In a Big 12 race without a runaway superteam, quarterback development could be the difference between finishing in the middle of the pack and crashing the championship game.

The other major storyline is the run game. New offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis has to give this offense more balance, and running back Jeremy Payne could be the player who decides how real this TCU push becomes.

If Payne gives the Frogs consistency on early downs, Craig won’t have to carry every possession.

That matters in November.

TCU’s current Big 12 title odds sit around +1900, which screams sleeper value more than longshot fantasy. The Frogs aren’t being priced like a favorite, but they’re not rebuilding either. They’re lurking.

In a league defined by chaos, that’s not a bad place to be.

If the offensive line holds, Craig pops and Payne becomes a legitimate weapon, TCU won’t just be a fun Big 12 storyline. The Horned Frogs could be a problem.
