Brice McCurdy and Kobe Haynes grew up dreaming of playing together. Now the 2027 Texas standouts are both committed to TCU.
FORT WORTH - TCU football didn’t just land two talented 2027 recruits; the Horned Frogs landed a ready-made connection years in the making.
Robinson quarterback Brice McCurdy and Whitney athlete Kobe Haynes, two of the top high school football prospects in Central Texas, are both headed to Fort Worth after committing to TCU.
For the Frogs, it’s a major recruiting win. For McCurdy and Haynes, it’s something much bigger than a logo on a hat.
It’s a childhood plan coming to life.
“We talked about it, honestly, growing up,” Haynes said. “We always said that we can go to the same college and play with each other.”
That dream started feeling real when McCurdy committed to TCU in February.
The three-star quarterback picked the Horned Frogs over more than a dozen Power 4 offers, including Baylor, Cincinnati, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.
Once McCurdy was locked in, Haynes knew the possibility was no longer just something two kids joked about.
“When Brice committed to TCU, we kind of talked about it again, and we’re like, ‘Oh, like, this can actually happen,’” Haynes said.
Then Haynes made it official on June 15.
The four-star wide receiver and athlete chose TCU after collecting around 20 Power 4 offers, with programs such as Utah, SMU and Stanford in the mix.
That gave TCU not only a dynamic offensive weapon, but a player who already has history with its future quarterback.
The bond goes way back. Haynes said the friendship really started when the two were about five years old, after a baseball game led to a sleepover invitation and a memorable Nerf war.
“That’s really, I guess, what got us going as friends,” Haynes said.
The chemistry didn’t stay in the backyard. It followed them into sports almost immediately.
Before they became big-time football recruits, Haynes and McCurdy were teammates on the baseball field, where they built confidence by feeding off each other’s success.
“We would hit back-to-back home runs in baseball,” Haynes said. “We were always on the same team. So it was always really just hyping each other up.”
Now TCU gets to bet on that same chemistry.
McCurdy brings a promising arm to the 2027 class. Haynes gives the Frogs a versatile playmaker who can stretch defenses and create mismatches.
Together, they give TCU a storyline that sells itself: two lifelong friends, one college destination and a chance to bring their backyard connection to the Big 12.
For Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs, this is more than a recruiting package. It’s a connection that already has roots.
