TCU football added 2027 EDGE prospect Hunter Black, a 6-foot-5 defender coming off a monster junior season at Brazos Christian.
TCU football just added another long, disruptive edge piece to its 2027 recruiting class.
Hunter Black, a 6-5, 215-pound pass rusher out of Brazos Christian in Bryan, Texas, committed to the Horned Frogs on Saturday, giving TCU another defensive building block in a class that’s starting to take shape.

Black becomes the ninth commitment in the Frogs’ 2027 group and the second EDGE prospect in the class, joining three-star defender Drake Carroll.
This isn’t just a frame-and-potential pickup, either.
Black put real production on tape during his junior season, piling up 25 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and 28 quarterback pressures.
That’s the kind of backfield chaos TCU is betting can translate as he continues to develop physically.
He also finished with 44 total tackles and forced two fumbles while helping Brazos Christian roll to a 12-1 record and a perfect 5-0 district mark.
For that effort, Black earned First-Team All-District and First-Team All-State honors.
That’s a pretty loud résumé for a player still early in the national recruiting spotlight.
Black had drawn offers from Tulane, Baylor, North Texas and others before choosing TCU. His June visit schedule also showed how quickly interest was starting to build.
He visited Tulane on June 4, then made his way to Fort Worth on June 11. A few days later, the Horned Frogs had their guy.
For TCU, this is the kind of in-state defensive swing that matters.

The Frogs’ 2027 class is currently ranked No. 71 nationally, but landing productive Texas prospects like Black gives the staff a chance to climb as the cycle heats up.
The upside is obvious. Black already has size, length and proven pass-rush production. Now, TCU gets a chance to mold him into a Big 12 problem.
