TCU landed 2027 running back Caris Sela, a 4.46 speedster from Justin Northwest who posted 1,931 total yards and 16 touchdowns last fall.

TCU football just added real juice to its 2027 recruiting class.

The Horned Frogs picked up a commitment from Justin Northwest running back Caris Sela on Monday, landing their first running back pledge of the cycle and giving the class another Texas high school playmaker with serious upside.

Sela, a 6-0, 190-pound back, becomes the 17th commitment in TCU’s 2027 class.

And this isn’t some quiet depth piece. Sela was one of the most productive running backs in Class 6A Texas high school football last season, hammering defenses for 1,670 rushing yards, adding 261 receiving yards and scoring 16 total touchdowns.

That’s 1,931 yards from scrimmage for a player who also led his district in both rushing yards and touchdowns.

The speed is what makes this commitment even more interesting.

Sela reportedly ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at a camp workout in May, which is the kind of number that changes how defenses have to fit the run.

At 190 pounds, he’s not just a track-style back trying to win foot races. He has enough size to run through contact and enough burst to punish bad angles.

His rise has been steady, too. As a freshman in 2023, Sela got limited work and rushed nine times for 67 yards.

As a sophomore in 2024, he carried 43 times for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Then came the breakout.

By his junior season, he had become one of the most dangerous backs in his district.

TCU beat out a growing offer list that included Washington State, Boise State, San Diego State, UConn, UNLV, UTSA, Lamar and Fordham.

That list could have kept expanding if Sela stayed on the board longer.

There’s also another layer to his athletic profile. Sela plays soccer and earned All-District 4-6A First Team honors, which says plenty about his footwork, balance and conditioning.

For TCU, this is exactly the kind of in-state recruiting win that matters. The Horned Frogs found a productive Texas back with verified speed, multi-sport athleticism and room to keep climbing.

Caris Sela may be the first running back in TCU’s 2027 class. He probably won’t be the easiest one to catch.
