FORT WORTH - TCU men’s basketball added another intriguing piece for 2026-27, and this one brings serious shooting upside.
The Horned Frogs have signed guard Gavin Murphy, a Calabasas, California native who spent last season at State Fair Community College.
Murphy gives TCU another perimeter option after earning All-Region 16 honors and proving he can score efficiently from all three levels.
Murphy averaged 10.8 points per game last season while shooting 50 percent from the field, 48.4percent from 3-point range and 87 percent at the free throw line.
His biggest performance came in the season finale against Three Rivers College, when he scored 20 points and knocked down six 3-pointers on 10 attempts.
Murphy also showed his shooting touch the year before at Eastern Florida State College. As a freshman in 2024-25, he averaged 4.2 points while hitting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
He scored a season-best 20 points against Prestige Worldwide Sports Academy, going 4-of-8 from deep.
Before his junior college stops, Murphy signed with Ole Miss and was part of the Rebels’ roster during the 2023-24 season.
He also left a major mark at Calabasas High School, finishing fourth in program history with 1,404 career points.
Murphy became the first player in Calabasas history to make 100 3-pointers and dish out 100 assists, showing he’s more than just a catch-and-shoot threat.
He joins Luke Bamgboye, Ryan Hunt, Gavin Sykes, Trent Lincoln, Milos Sojic and DJ Thomas in TCU’s incoming group.
For the Horned Frogs, Murphy’s role is easy to understand: stretch the floor, punish defenses and bring proven shot-making to a rebuilt backcourt.
