TCU pitcher Zack James claimed Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after firing eight scoreless innings against Kansas State in a huge road win.
TCU baseball got a major lift on the mound this weekend, and Zack James made sure the Big 12 took notice.
The sophomore right-hander was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after dominating Kansas State in TCU’s series-clinching 4-0 road victory, delivering the best outing of his college career at exactly the right time.
Zack James gave TCU baseball everything it could’ve asked for Sunday. Facing one of the nation’s top offenses, James worked 8.0 scoreless innings, allowed only five hits, issued just one walk and struck out five.
More importantly, he kept Kansas State from ever finding rhythm at the plate, helping the Horned Frogs lock down a statement win away from home.
That stat line was impressive on its own, but the way James controlled the game made the performance stand out even more.
He limited traffic, attacked the zone and forced Kansas State to play from behind all afternoon. The Wildcats finished with only seven baserunners against him, and James faced the minimum in four separate innings.
In a game where TCU needed length and composure, he delivered both.
The strong finish also said plenty about where James is right now. Three of his five strikeouts came across his final three innings, a sign that his stuff held up deep into the outing instead of fading.
That’s the kind of late-game sharpness coaches love to see from a starter, especially in conference play when every inning carries extra weight.
For TCU, James’ emergence is a big development as the season pushes deeper into the Big 12 race.
A starter who can silence a ranked offense and work deep into games changes the equation for an entire weekend series.
The honor reflects that. James didn’t just pitch well; he gave TCU one of its biggest conference performances of the season and showed he can be a difference-maker on the mound.
