TCU basketball saw its NCAA Tournament run end against Duke in a chippy game that included a flagrant foul on Cameron Boozer and a bloody hit to David Punch.

TCU basketball didn’t just lose to Duke in the NCAA Tournament.

The Horned Frogs got dragged into a bruising, emotional game that turned physical early and never really let up. That edge was impossible to miss.

One of the biggest moments came in the first half, when Duke star Cameron Boozer caught TCU forward David Punch in the face with an elbow while trying to attack off the dribble.

No whistle came immediately, but officials went to the monitor and upgraded the play to a flagrant 1. Punch was left with a bloodied nose and had to head to the bench while trainers worked on him, a sequence that only added to the intensity of the matchup.

For TCU, it felt like the kind of game where every break mattered.

The Horned Frogs were trying to hang with one of the nation’s top teams, and moments like that only added more disruption.

TCU was awarded two free throws and possession after the review, but the bigger issue was the physical toll. Punch had been one of the emotional drivers for this team during its March Madness run, and seeing him leave the floor bleeding was a tough image in a game already trending Duke’s direction.

Boozer’s afternoon was strange for a while. He picked up his second foul not long after the flagrant and spent the end of the first half on the bench. But after halftime, everything changed.

He poured in 17 second-half points as Duke found separation and eventually closed out an 81-58 win to send TCU home.

There was more controversy later, too, when TCU’s Tanner Toolson was assessed a flagrant 1 after a fall that involved Boozer in the second half. By then, though, the game had already shifted.

That’s what will sting for TCU. The Horned Frogs were fighting to extend their season, but the afternoon became just as much about surviving the physicality as solving Duke.

In the end, the Blue Devils had too much firepower, and TCU’s tournament journey came to a rough and painful finish.
