TCU women’s basketball rallied past Washington 62-59 in overtime as Olivia Miles and Clara Silva helped send the Horned Frogs back to the Sweet 16.

FORT WORTH - TCU women’s basketball is headed back to the Sweet 16 after grinding out a dramatic 62-59 overtime win over Washington on Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.

The Horned Frogs looked out of rhythm for much of the afternoon, but Olivia Miles, Clara Silva and Taylor Bigby helped rescue the season when it mattered most.

For TCU, this was the kind of NCAA Tournament game that tests everything.

The Horned Frogs fell behind by 10 in the first half, scored only 19 points before halftime and entered the locker room down eight.

Washington controlled the pace for long stretches, and TCU’s offense never looked comfortable early after exploding from 3-point range in its first-round win.

That changed after the break. Miles once again showed why she’s been the engine of this TCU team all season.

The star guard finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, scoring 12 points in the second half and overtime while keeping the Horned Frogs steady under pressure.

Her first basket of the game also pushed her to 698 points this season, setting a new TCU single-season scoring record.

Silva was just as important in the comeback. The sophomore forward scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, then delivered one of the biggest baskets of the afternoon with the go-ahead layup to open overtime.

Bigby added 15 points, including three made 3-pointers, and stayed hot in March after entering the game averaging 21 points per contest in the NCAA Tournament.

TCU’s defense gave the offense a chance to recover. The Horned Frogs held Washington to 35 percent shooting and dominated inside, piling up a 42-18 edge in paint points.

That interior advantage showed up late as TCU outscored the Huskies 11-8 in overtime and finally seized control.

The win pushed TCU to 31-5, extended the team’s home winning streak to 44 games and sent the Horned Frogs to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.

For a program still climbing, that’s another major step forward.
