The Horned Frogs went a wild ride once again this year but ultimately met the same fate with an Elite 8 loss to South Carolina.

TCU headed onto the court of Golden 1 Arena in Sacramento looking to avenge an Elite 8 loss to Texas last season. However, the Horned Frogs had a bit of deja vu in a crushing 78-52 defeat to South Carolina.

The 3-seed Horned Frogs were able to hang around with the top-seeded Gamecocks for most of the night, as TCU only trailed by eight heading into halftime.

But the Gamecocks would show why they've been one of the best the sport has to offer down the stretch. They outscored TCU 29-11 in the final frame to completely outrace the Horned Frogs late.

Following their legendary performance against Virginia in the Sweet 16, Marta Suarez and Olivia Miles were shutdown by the Gamecocks defense.

The Big 12 Player of the Year still put up a team-high 18 points but wasn't able to get the fireworks she had created throughout the tournament.

Taylor Bigby followed behind with 10 points while Suarez and Donovyn Hunter each tallied nine points. Outside of these four Horned Frogs, the team struggled to get offensive contributions.

Only one TCU bench player, Kennedy Basham, made it to the scoresheet with four points on the night.

Defensively, sophomore Joyce Edwards caused nightmares for the Horned Frogs. She exploded for a game-high 24 points on a 10-of-20 shooting effort, including no 3-point attempts.

She was aided by Agot Makeer, who went for 18 points with only one made 3-pointer. Two other Gamecocks broke into double figures in another dominant display for head coach Dawn Staley's squad.

After losing superstar Hailey Van Lith this season, TCU did a magnificent job in rebuilding and showing the college basketball world that their magical run was no fluke. While the road ended sooner than the Horned Frogs hoped for, they can hold their heads high as one of the most successful teams in program history.

Head coach Mark Campbell did a tremendous job once again in his third season, leading the Horned Frogs to back-to-back Big 12 regular season titles and consecutive Elite 8 appearances.

While a trip to the Final Four continues to elude the team, they are in very good hands with Campbell in command. It'll be a long wait to see the Horned Frogs take the court again but when they do, they are sure to bring another exciting season to those in Fort Worth and beyond.
