TCU women’s tennis locked up its best Big 12 finish since 2016 and now heads to Orlando as the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament.
FORT WORTH - The TCU women’s tennis team is heading into the Big 12 Tournament with real momentum after finishing third in the final conference standings, the program’s highest placement in the league since 2016.
It’s a major step forward for the Horned Frogs, who now head to Orlando with one of their strongest conference resumes since joining the Big 12.
TCU closed the regular season with 10 conference wins, its best total in Big 12 play and three better than any previous league campaign as a conference member.
That jump in production helped the Frogs secure the No. 3 seed for this week’s tournament at the USTA National Campus.
That seed sets up a quarterfinal showdown with No. 6 Baylor on Thursday, April 16, at 2 p.m.
The matchup is a familiar one, and it’s one TCU should enter with confidence. Earlier this season in Fort Worth, the Frogs handled the Bears by a 4-1 score, giving them a proven blueprint heading into the postseason.
TCU and Arizona finished with identical conference records, but the Frogs claimed the higher seed thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker.
That result ended up carrying major weight, giving TCU the inside track to a deeper tournament run and another sign of how much this team accomplished during the regular season.
And the path is already clear from there. If TCU gets past Baylor, the Frogs would move on to face either No. 2 Arizona State or the winner of the match between No. 7 Houston and No. 10 Texas Tech in Friday’s semifinal round.
For TCU, this isn’t just a nice regular-season finish. It’s a chance to turn one of the program’s best Big 12 seasons in years into something bigger.
The Frogs have already matched history with their placement. Now they’ll try to add a postseason run to go with it.
