Defensive icon Bob Lilly and rushing legend LaDainian Tomlinson join an elite roster of college football’s finest, cementing TCU’s enduring legacy across decades of national gridiron excellence.

TCU's football history received another national honor this week as two Horned Frog legends earned spots on The Sporting News' College Football All-Decade All-America Teams.

Defensive icon Bob Lilly was selected to the 1960s team, while Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson represented the 2000s, adding another prestigious accolade to two of the greatest careers in school history.

The recognition comes as The Sporting News celebrates its 140th anniversary by honoring the top All-Americans from each decade of college football. For TCU, the selections serve as another reminder that some of the sport's most accomplished players made their names in Fort Worth before going on to legendary professional careers.

Lilly's impact on TCU football cannot be overstated. A dominant force along the defensive line, he helped lead the Horned Frogs to two Southwest Conference championships while establishing himself as one of the nation's premier defenders. His standout play earned him consensus All-America honors in 1960 before he became the first player ever drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.

His remarkable career eventually led to inductions into both the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame, making his place on the 1960s All-Decade team a fitting honor.

Tomlinson's selection for the 2000s team is equally deserving. During his unforgettable career in Fort Worth, he became one of the most productive running backs college football has ever seen. His back-to-back national rushing titles in 1999 and 2000 helped launch TCU's return to national prominence, while his senior season remains one of the greatest individual campaigns in school history.

Tomlinson rushed for more than 2,100 yards in 2000, finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting and captured the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back.

Both players eventually became stars in the NFL, but their accomplishments at TCU laid the foundation for those professional careers. More importantly, they helped elevate the Horned Frogs onto the national stage and created a standard that future generations continue to chase.

With Lilly representing one era and Tomlinson another, TCU's football tradition is once again being recognized on a national level. Their inclusion on The Sporting News' All-Decade All-America Teams celebrates not only two legendary careers, but also the lasting impact TCU has had on college football.
