The TCU Horned Frogs are hot on the recruiting trail as the offseason rolls along, and they don't have to travel very far to reach one of the nation's best running backs in the incoming 2027 senior class.
DeSoto (TX) running back SaRod Baker is fresh off one of the most impressive playoff runs in Texas high school football history, where he rushed for over 3,000 yards and 45 touchdowns as the Eagles won their third UIL Class 6A Division II state championship in the last four years.
Now as Baker's commitment window narrows before his senior season in South Dallas, the nearby Horned Frogs are in the hunt to land his commitment.
After recently taking home MVP honors at the Under Armour Dallas camp the 5-9 tailback revealed that he has an official visit to TCU lined up soon.
"I feel like I did great," Baker said about his camp performance this spring. "Just coming out here and competing against the best of the best and showcasing my skills, I feel like I'm blessed. When I step on the field, I'm a whole different guy than what I am off the field. I've got a little switch I flip to get into that mode."
Other in-state programs are reportedly after Baker, who's ranked as the No. 9 in the country in his class by 247Sports, but he also holds offers from power programs across the Big Ten and SEC.
Legendary DeSoto coach Claude Mathis believes it's "that mode" that put Baker on this map this last season as a junior. That was especially notable in his historic postseason run in which he recorded over 1,000 yards rushing in the playoffs alone.
"I really do believe he caught this world by storm and he is a five-star," Mathis said after the state championship win. "But more importantly, he is a great young man, and I do believe he's the best in the state and the nation."
With the bluest of bloods lining up for his services, having a hometown team in TCU in the running shows how head coach Sonny Dykes is that close to locking in one of the best prospects in the country to keep him home.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Baker hopes to make his commitment this summer and revealed that the frontrunner teams are TCU, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, SMU and Texas Tech.
"That's what I've dreamed of my whole life," Baker said, "To get to high school and make plays for my coaches, for my team, for my city ... and to get offers from the biggest colleges in the world."
