Texas A&M Women’s Basketball Faces No. 21 Tennessee in Key SEC Road Test cover image

The Texas A&M Aggies battle No. 21 Tennessee on the road, seeking a crucial SEC upset.

Texas A&M heads to Knoxville on Thursday night looking to flip the script in SEC play as the Aggies take on No. 21 Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena.

With conference games running short, this matchup offers a major opportunity for A&M to grab momentum against a nationally ranked opponent on its home floor.

The Aggies enter at 10-11 overall and 3-9 in league action, still searching for consistency on the offensive end. Texas A&M is averaging just over 60 points per game across its last 10 contests, while opponents have pushed close to 78 during that same stretch.

That scoring gap has been the biggest hurdle for head coach Joni Taylor’s group.

One bright spot has been forward Fatmata Janneh, who continues to anchor the interior. Janneh is averaging 11.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, flirting with a double-double every night while also adding 1.5 steals.

Her ability to control the glass will be critical against a Tennessee team that thrives in transition.

On the perimeter, Jordan Webster’s outside shooting could be a swing factor after averaging nearly one made three-pointer per game over the last 10 outings.

Tennessee, meanwhile, is 9-2 at home and scores more than 77 points per contest.

Talaysia Cooper, who poured in 30 points in her last game, leads the Lady Vols with 15.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Janiah Barker has also been productive recently, averaging 11.1 points over her last 10 games.

For Texas A&M to pull the upset, defensive discipline and shot selection must improve. Slowing Tennessee’s tempo and turning this into a half-court battle could give the Aggies a legitimate shot at a statement SEC win.
