Texas A&M basketball saw its SEC Tournament hopes collapse Thursday night as Oklahoma overwhelmed the Aggies 83-63 inside Bridgestone Arena.
The loss leaves Texas A&M at 21-11 entering Selection Sunday, with its NCAA Tournament fate now resting in the hands of the committee.
The Aggies simply couldn’t overcome Oklahoma’s physical dominance on the glass. The Sooners controlled the rebounding battle 48-33 and turned that advantage into a brutal 18-1 edge in second-chance points.
For a Texas A&M team that thrives on effort and toughness, it was a glaring weakness at the worst possible time.
Texas A&M never truly found its rhythm in the first half. Oklahoma came out firing, shooting a scorching 59 percent from the field while the Aggies struggled to connect at just 29 percent.
By halftime, the Sooners had built a commanding 49-27 lead, leaving the Aggies staring at an uphill climb.
Despite the deficit, Texas A&M attempted to mount a second-half rally. Guard Pop Isaacs sparked a brief surge by drilling back-to-back 3-pointers as part of a 10-0 Aggies run.
That push trimmed the Oklahoma lead to 54-42 with over 15 minutes remaining and briefly injected life into the Texas A&M bench.
But the momentum faded quickly. Oklahoma responded with another run that stretched the lead back to 20 points midway through the second half, effectively ending the comeback attempt.
Several Aggies still managed solid individual performances.
Rashaun Agee continued his remarkable season, recording his program-record 13th double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The veteran forward has now led Texas A&M on the boards 25 times this season.
Isaacs added 12 points, four made 3-pointers and six rebounds, marking his fourth straight game scoring in double figures.
Meanwhile, Rylan Griffen chipped in 13 points and is averaging an impressive 19.3 points across his last three games.
Now, Texas A&M turns its attention to the NCAA Tournament, hoping its regular-season resume and recent momentum are enough to hear its name called on Selection Sunday.
