Fresh off a career-best season in Miami, the productive former Texas A&M standout bolsters Carolina’s defensive rebuild after a surprising roster cut shook up his veteran journey.
Tyrel Dodson didn't have to spend too much time looking for another NFL team.
The Texas A&M product Dodson, despite putting together one of the most stat-filled seasons of his career in 2025, was part of the Miami Dolphins' cutdown to 53 over the weekend.
But now the Carolina Panthers are expected to sign the linebacker to their practice squad.
Dodson, 28, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and is now looking for his seventh pro season.
Last year, Dodson recorded career-highs in combined tackles (129) and sacks (5.0) while also notching an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He started in each of his 16 games for Miami. ...
All of which might cause Aggies fans to wonder what the heck the lowly Dolphins are doing here.
The Panthers have already spent much of the offseason trying to address the rebuilding of their linebackers room.
And this figures to help.
Dodson doesn't arrive in Carolina with a massive price tag or massive expectations.
He will, however, bring production.
He entered this summer competing with second-round pick Jacob Rodriguez (the rookie from Texas Tech) for the starting job alongside Jordyn Brooks, with Miami listing Dodson and Rodriguez as co-starters on its depth chart.
Rodriguez ultimately won the job, leaving the Dolphins willing to move on from Dodson as they set their initial 53-man roster.
Dodson spent three seasons at Texas A&M from 2016-18 before beginning his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills. ... and then bouncing around the league from there.
Seven years later, he's still connected to Aggieland — Dodson returned to Texas A&M and earned his degree in Agricultural Leadership and Development earlier this month.
So he's got an Aggies degree ... and now he's got a new NFL job.
